Training to become an operational volunteer at Lorton Volunteer Fire Department is a valuable journey that takes time, effort, and dedication. New volunteers typically train for 6–18 months, while those with previous certifications may qualify for a faster process. Hands-on experience is key, volunteers ride along on emergency calls, building skills and confidence. To stay active, operational members must complete ongoing training, stay in good physical shape, and commit to at least 240 service hours a year, though many proudly give much more.
